Gene Chambers - Vice President of Marketing

Gene is the Vice President of Marketing for Vision International, the Salt Lake City, Utah-based pioneer in the field of XXL digital printing. While he’s not actually a mental health professional, he plays one at cocktail parties. If you have any questions about digital printing, or even life itself, you can ask it here.

Aren’t all digital printers the same?

Digital prints just don’t look good, do they?

You only print on limited materials, right?

Digital printers are Mom-and-Pop shops with very limited capacity, true?

Don’t you only handle monster-sized jobs for monster-sized companies?

Can’t I just run over to Kinko’s and have a print done?

Large-format prints have ugly stripes where the images join together.

Resolutions don’t matter.

What are the requirements for the artwork?

Aren’t all digital printers the same?

You poor misguided soul. That’s like saying the Id and Superego are the same. To gain a truly worthy digital printing experience, one must seek experienced large-format professionals. Find a printer with a staff with at least five years of hands-on digital printing experience. I, of course, always prescribe the professionals at Vision International to my patients.

Digital prints just don’t look good, do they?

In this case, beauty is skin deep. Quality digital printers should offer you four-color, continuous-tone prints, with a variety of resolutions and printing substrates to fit your specific needs. Vision’s combination of premium substrates and technical skills create quality never before seen in the digital industry.

You only print on limited materials, right?

Vision can print on a variety of substrates including fabric, paper, nylon scrim, PVC, PE vinyl and carpet including many rigid substrates. Dye sublimation gives fabric vibrant images that can blow in the wind. Give us a call and we’ll be happy to counsel you further.

Vision’s 24/7, round-the-clock production schedule lets us turn your job faster. Don’t get us wrong though. Vision isn’t a cold corporate giant whose only concern is cranking out job after job. Don’t you only handle monster-sized jobs for monster-sized companies?

The dreaded monster phobia. Fortunately, this is a monstrous misconception.
While Vision does do large runs for companies such as Pepsi, Volkswagen, Infiniti and more, we also produce thousands of prints for small to medium-sized companies. Intelligent businesses of all sizes know the value and economy XXL digital printing offers.

Can’t I just run over to Kinko’s and have a print done?

Not exactly. Look for an experienced large-format professional. For those of you without psychic abilities, ask vendors for their qualifications and for the experience level of the people working on your job. Find a printer with a staff that has at least five years of hands-on printing experience.

Large-format prints have ugly stripes where the images join together.

All’s not as it seams. Overlap and butt seaming are the two most common methods of joining these prints. While overlapping is generally less expensive, it can leave some unsightly stripes in your image, especially if they run horizontally in your image. Butt seaming is virtually undetectable and is preferable, especially if your image contains peoples’ faces or other critical elements. Just remember, nothing beats a great butt.

Resolutions don’t matter.

I break mine the day after New Year’s. But it’s still important to set goals. Oh, you mean printing resolutions. They’re crucial. First, ask for samples of images printed at different resolutions. Choose the best resolution for your image’s intended viewing distance. The formula’s simple: The closer the viewers will be, the higher your resolution should be. A lower resolution usually results in a cheaper price, but it might not be good enough for your project. Resolve to make your projects look as good as they can.

What are the requirements for the artwork?

Requirements!?! We don't need no stinkin' requirements! Well, yes, yes you do. Each project has a specified sizing requirement. This all depends on a couple of factors. Where is this print going? How far away are people viewing it going to be? Things like that. Following our comprehensive list of requirements will ensure that you will get the best possible print from your beautiful creation. You can download those requirements right HERE.
